"Imagine all the people... living life in peace"
- John Lennon (Imagine, 1971)
This cover humbly attempts to re-create John's magic and purity as reflected in the original 1971 recording. It's almost unbelievable that I'm able to virtually play the Piano for John Lennon while he 'sings' the vocals on these.
Cinematography: Japneet Singh
John Lennon was assassinated in 1980, almost a decade before I was even born. Such is the power of technology that timeless musical creations are still handed down to generations even after their artists have long passed. Furthermore, with the power of music production tools, artists are able to pull everything apart, insert themselves and essentially become a part of the song itself.
If there was ever an impromptu shoot, this would be it. One late afternoon, I invited Japneet Singh over to the Alumni Theatre at Thompson Rivers University to check out this new idea I had... I played the first few notes... and both of us knew what had to be done!
We started filming the same evening at 6 p.m. and wrapped up in about 3 hours.
May I take this opportunity to highlight what a creative genius Japneet is to not only have filmed this project on the fly but to also get those beautiful shoots with nothing else than a regular tripod stand. All those pan shots? Yeah... by hand.
The video editing took a few hours on the following weekend.
