As explained before, the ideal time to attempt Task 2 is around 35 minutes. Since Task 2 is worth 6 bands, it is important to be able to scan important details from the question quickly and start writing! The steps below are an example of how I analyze an essay question and make mental notes.
These days an increasing number of developing countries are improving their tourism industries. Why do you think this is the case? Is this a positive or negative development?
STEP 1: The first line is a general statement and will be the main highlight while writing our introduction. Notice the keyword "Developing," which means we must only focus on countries that meet that criteria.
STEP 2: The second line is a question. Notice the word "You." Since "You" has been used, we would give our opinion on this topic using "I."
STEP 3: The third line is also a question. However, this asks for more specific reasons and examples. Depending on your opinion, the weightage for both points would vary. In a question like this, depending on the topic, you can either focus primarily on one side or balance between both. I recommend highlighting both sides to give you the most number of ideas to elaborate on.
